A once‑in‑a‑lifetime experience in Prague
APHKHAZETI is a breathtaking fusion of Georgian dance, rooted in centuries‑old traditions, with the pulse of contemporary choreography and music. With a history spanning nearly a hundred years, the ensemble—founded in 1931—has captivated audiences around the world, bringing to life the beauty, folklore, and electrifying spirit of Georgian culture.
After the war in Abkhazia forced the artists to relocate to Tbilisi in 1992, the ensemble preserved its unmistakable character, mastery, and artistic soul. A new era began in 2021 under the leadership of the brilliant artistic director Bachana Chanturia, who united top Georgian composers to create a powerful and original musical world for the company.
On June 5, 2026, Prague will host the only APHKHAZETI performance—and for the first time ever, it will unfold on a circular stage in the ultramodern Nova Spirála hall. This extraordinary format places the dancers exceptionally close to the audience, creating an intense sense of presence, emotion, and connection. For this unique space, the ensemble is preparing an exclusive program that reveals the dynamism and fire of Georgian dance in a completely new light.
Tradition, ballet, and modernity merge into a spectacular show unlike anything the Czech Republic has seen before.
